A national centre of excellence for manufacturing

We could build a national centre of exellencein order to train trainees in new manufacturing techniques and tools as well as to act as a test bed for new manufacturing technologies. The centre of excellence would act as the hub all of things related to the British manufacturing industry and enable between cross pollination of ideas ad networking between those in the sector.

Why the contribution is important

We need to ensure that the UK can build and maintain its competitive edge in manufacturing. A centre of excellence would be a start and enable a focus of activity in one place.

Don't these sort of centres already exist for different sectors (such as different forms of engineering, technology and science). Would we really need one for manufacturing? I'm just not sure you'd get the traffic required. It would be much better to target support and resources directly to helping businesses.
